March 2020. I was in conversation with Mark Lawson for a discussion about my book, Seeking Love in Modern Britain. We ranged widely across topics from Jswipe to gender in the 1970s and dating in a time of pandemic. It was heralded a festival 'highlight'.
Nov 2019. I gave a talk on a panel entitled From Trump's Wall to Policing Culture: Understanding Borders Today. I focussed on the collapse in boundaries in sex and sexuality, and the way these merely introduce new ones, some of them psychologically punitive.
Oct 2019. I opposed the motion 'This House Would Nationalise Eton', debating with Peter Hitchens, Brendan O'Neill and ex-MP Stephen Dorrell.
Feb 2022. I argued in favour of the motion: this House Would Extinguish The Rebellion, against the co-founder of Extinction Rebellion, Roger Hallam, and Roger Read, its former spokesperson.
June 2019. I gave the historian's lecture on themes from Rutherford & Son starring Roger Allam, entitled 'Courtship, Romance and Forbidden Love in the 20th century'.
Jan 2019. High-profile Metoo-themed debate debating the motion This House Cannot Separate the Art from the Artist. I opposed the motion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=el0q0qApfDw
Sep 2018. I gave a 45-minute talk to the Eton sixth-form about resisting political orthodoxies.
